Remember if you submit the document as a .pdf then you need to be able to read comments (you need adobe).

The 30 sec elevator pitch can be submitted either through youtube, email, or t-square (if it will fit). The pitch only needs to be public long enough for me to grade.

Business Style

Business Communication involves a particular attention to style. Style includes the use of language, which is dictated by etiquette and affects the tone conveyed.  To help us work with style, we will first take a look at the peanut butter manifesto memo. What did you think of it? Was it rhetorically effective? What was its purpose? Who was the audience? How would you have felt to be the recipient of this document?

Let’s especially consider the language choices he made. What are they?

How does the language use create tone? what is the relationship between language and etiquette?

Using the parts of arrangement we have discussed in class, let’s identify the parts in the greensboro memo on T-Square.

B) We are going to work on two aspects of our 30 second Elevator Pitches.

  1. Breathing and Enunciation

weve all seen at least one movie about flesh-eating zombies taking over my personal favorite is Resident Evil but where do zombies come from and why do they love eating brains so much the word zombie comes from Haitian and New Orleans voodoo origins although its meaning has changed slightly over the years it refers to a human corpse mysteriously reanimated to serve the undead through ancient voodoo and folk-lore traditions shows like the Walking Dead were born in movies shows and literature zombies are often depicted as being created by an infectious virus which is passed on via bites and contact with bodily fluids Harvard psychiatrist Steven Schlozman wrote a fictional medical paper on the zombies presented in Night of the Living Dead and refers to the condition as Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome caused by an infectious agent

2. Staging

We will be performing our 30 sec speeches on a laptop to practice lighting, eye contact, and background.

A background should be interesting with out distracting the viewer.  For example, a viewer does not want to be looking up your nose or staring at your unmade bed.
